Barbara A. Ester Unit is a penitentiary in Arkansas Department of Correction (ADC), located in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. It is scheduled to have a capacity of 580 prisoners, and it is the first prison in the ADC dedicated to the re-entry of prisoners into the community. In addition to the prisoners to be released within six months are also prisoners imprisoned for disobeying their parole rules. The prison call name is Barbara Ester, a prison guard who holds the rank of corporal in the East Arkansas Unit. He died on January 20, 2012 in the hands of a prisoner.

History
Formerly known as Diagnostic Unit. By 2015 the Esther Unit begins accepting prisoners. The dedication of the prison as an Esther Unit occurs in August 2016; at that time his capacity was temporarily 380 prisoners.
In December 2016 ADC announced that it would move approximately 175 prisoners from Pulaski County Jail's Wrightsville Annex to the Esther Unit; The Wrightsville Annex held prisoners immediately released and parole, and the ADC claimed not to have the necessary funds to operate both Esther and Wrightsville attachments. Estonian Construction Unit is scheduled for completion by the end of March 2017.

Program
The prison has a special barracks for military veterans who have imprisonment. There is a General Education Development program (GED) and a "Preparedness Success" program, a re-entry program that uses the National Institute of Corrections Thinking for a Change (T4C) curriculum.
