Draper's Prison Facility is a state prison of Alabama Prison for men located in Elmore, Elmore County, Alabama. The first prison opened in 1939 with a capacity of 600 beds, replacing the former Speigner Reformatory. Speigner was founded around 1900 and employs inmates at a farm and a cotton mill on site. It was destroyed by fire in November 1932
Draper maintains agricultural operations and furniture factories, as well as vocational training and hiring inmates for facility maintenance. Every prisoner has a job assigned. It was named for Hamp Draper, who was then-director of the state correction department.
Elmore is the location of three state jails of Alabama: Draper, the adjacent Staton Prison and Elmore Correctional Facility about a mile to the east.
