Gamopetalae is an artificial group used in plant identification based on the Bentham and Hooker classification system. George Bentham and Joseph Dalton Hooker published an excellent classification in three volumes between 1862 and 1883. As a natural classification system, it showed no evolutionary relationship between plants but is still a useful and popular classification system based on key dichotomies especially for groups of flowering plants ( angiosperms). This is the most popular classification system based on key characteristics that allow taxonomic students to quickly identify groups of plants based solely on physical characteristics. However, this is not a scientific group and is used for identification purposes only on the basis of similar plant characteristics. Under the Gamopetalae system is a Subgroup and consists of;

  • Flowers with different calyx and corolla. The petals join together in the crown.
