History
The city was formed from the city part of Chateaugay in 1805. The city was originally named "Harison", after Richard Harison who had bought the land and founded the city. The name was changed in 1808 to "Ezraville", after Ezra L'Hommedieu, and in 1812 became "Malone".
During the War of 1812 the village was dismissed by British troops who invaded what would become Canada.
Former governor Mario Cuomo instituted financial measures to boost economic stability to the region by bringing many prisons (state and federal) to help "strengthen" the area.
