Swami's is an area in San Diego that contains Swami Beach and other local attractions. The beach, also known as "Swami's Reef" and "Swamis", is an internationally known surf spot, a break point located in Encinitas, San Diego County, California. Swami's was named Swami Paramahansa Yogananda, because the ashram foundation and ashram of Self-Realization Fellowship, built in 1937, ignores this point of coral. The name "Swami's" is also given to a sand beach stretching south from the next access point to the beach, located next to the San Elijo State Beach camping area; this more southern surfing place often goes by the name "Pipe".

Originally the name "Swami's" was an unofficial nickname that the surfers had given to the break point, but eventually the name was officially adopted, and also used as the name of the top-cliff garden, formerly known as "Seacliff Roadside Park".

Beach Access

Access to Swami Beach is mainly through the small "Swami" garden at the top of the cliff, which has bathrooms, fountains, benches, picnic tables, and trees. Also, a small parking lot is located there for people to park their car at. On the edge of the park is a wooden staircase that leads to the sand beach.

Swami offers sand beaches available from 4 A.M. up to 2 A.M. and has a guard tower open from 10 AM to 6 PM. during the period End of June to Labor Day (Early September). Beach parking is available starting from 5 A.M. until 10 pm. The beach is based on the First-Come, First-Serve base and is managed by the Encinitas Parks and Recreation Department.

At Encinitas Beach, especially in Swami, pet dogs, barbecue grills being transported, drinking glasses, and all kinds of cigarettes or alcohol are banned in this area.

Surfing

Swami's is a major surfing destination, especially during good waves in winter, because of its prominent break points, as well as fun coral breaks, and beach holidays. The number of surfers can be very large when the conditions are good. Surfing at this location is ideal with low to mid waves, W or NW wave direction, and calm East breeze.

Swami allows all levels of surfers, but is known as high performance waves for long board boards and short boards. Bodysurfing and bodyboarding is a dearth due to the highly competitive nature of the crowd to capture and ride a number of waves that come in sets every few minutes.

Swami's is also known as a challenging place to paddle, requiring a level of fitness above what breaks other requests. This is mainly due to the distance from the coast to the main peak several hundred meters from the beach. As the wave becomes larger, this distance increases, and after a long journey, the oar back to the main peak can last a few minutes. For this reason many surfers will choose to end their rides before the waves reach the shore.

There are mainly two ways in which surfers initially paddle to the main peak. The most common way is to approach from the southern pause (right in front of the guard tower) and paddle around the pause through the deep water (known as the channel). Another method of rowing is to walk north two hundred yards and approach the main peak with a more rough and more turbulent short cut. While it is more risky (due to the rough wave nature in this zone), it can be a significantly faster route to the main peak. This is often known as "paddling out through the back door." Most novice surfers will avoid this method because it requires greater skill and fitness.

Own Friendship Meditation Garden Meditation and Hermitage

In 1920, Paramahansa Yogananda founded the Swa-Realization Guild. Yogananda came from India as a representative for the international congress of religions and wanted to bring the great teachings of meditation to the Americans. The meditation garden is filled with flowers, plants, trees and a number of small ponds featuring small waterfalls and koi fish. It extends well from the starting point of the meditation park to the cliffs of the beach at Swami's, where the view of the sunset can be seen.

Some activities include weekly Sunday services for adults and Sunday school for children. Other activities include meditation, kirtan singing, scripture readings, memorials, and many opportunities to serve.

Ecology

Swami ecology has a variety of different inhabitants who live there. These include grassy surfaces, lush forests, and coral reefs where lobsters and other fish and invertebrates live and consume food. Additionally, visitors can see spectacular marine animals and such as sea rabbits, brittle stars, and octopus in nearby pools. Visitors can also see fossils aged nearly 45 million years on rock level.

Preservation

The Swami's Reef is a protected area through the California Marine Life Protection Act. This action protects marine life and the closest habitat of transfers. In addition, fishing is strictly prohibited in this area.

Surfing etiquette

Although ethics occurs in Swami from time to time, it is not known as a good example for surfing population in general. Levels gathered at this world-class location range from absolute beginners (Maui surf school) to advanced surfers, both locally and from other major breaks. In this whole, you will find various "events": winter waves to random boards on the forehead; However, for the most part, those who often do Swamis regularly (regardless of skill level), tend to be polite and ride a simple average wave.

Swami's Surfing Association

Swami's Surfing Association was founded in 1964 by local surfers as a non-profit organization dedicated to improving coastal communities and assisting environmental issues.

SSA sponsors and participates in programs, such as, Adopt-a-Beach, Disabled Vietnam Veterans, Blind Surf Program, and more. Over the past 18 years, SSA has held a surfing contest in Encinitas. These events and programs are funded by sponsors from the community. Donations can be tax deductible as charitable donations.
