Histori
MidAmerica St. Louis Airport was created to reduce the crowd at St. International Airport. Louis Lambert, but has been criticized as a pig barge project. Displayed several times as the "Fleecing of America" ââsegment of NBC Nightly News, it's called "Gateway to Nowhere" by Tom Brokaw, a $ 313 million taxpayer fee. Supporting MidAmerica's additional grounding credit by saving Scott AFB from closure during BRAC 2005. They also described MidAmerica as "Gateway to the World", citing new cargo terminals and customs facilities designed to attract international cargo. The congestion at Lambert Airport has not been a problem since American Airlines reduced its hub operation by fifty percent in 2003 and a new billion-dollar runway opened in 2006.
Passenger services have improved dramatically since Allegiant Airlines restarted service in 2012 with flights to eight destinations and a further increase in frequency by 2017.
MidAmerica Airport is named "Airport of the Year" in the category for airports that see over 10,000 passengers annually by the Illinois Department of Transportation in 2018.

- Great Plains Airlines filed for bankruptcy in January 2004 and eventually stopped all operations.
- TransMeridian Airlines started service in Mid-America on November 21, 2004. The Atlanta-based airline filed for bankruptcy on September 29, 2005, then stopped serving all purposes - including MidAmerica.
- Allegiant Air starts service from St. Petersburg's airport. Clair County on April 29, 2005. Since then, direct flights were added to Fort Lauderdale (FL), Destin/Fort Walton Beach (FL)), Jacksonville (FL), Las Vegas (NV), Myrtle Beach ), Orlando/Sanford (FL)), Phoenix/Mesa (AZ), Punta Gorda (FL), and St. Petersburg/Clearwater (FL). Allegiant operates the McDonnell Douglas MD-80 as well as the Airbus A319 and A320 jet aircraft.
Passenger facilities
From the start, the passenger terminal is planned as an expandable facility that will provide passenger accommodation for early opening of MidAmerica Airport and allow for easy expansion if required. The passenger terminal is located in a 250-foot wide building with a length of 700 feet, which is limited by runways and parking lots. Initial construction provides two high-level departure gates (both have jet bridges) with additional ground gates to serve smaller commuter planes.
