Histori

Sebagai Saluran Sundance

Sebagai saluran film premium (1996-2007)

After negotiations in 1994 broke down to turn Robert Redford into a partner in the predecessor of AMC Networks, Rainbow Media Independent Film Channel, Redford launched Sundance Channel in February 1996 as a joint venture between Showtime Networks (then a Viacom division, now owned by CBS Corporation) NBC, and Redford (who also served as the network's creative director).

The channel was originally launched on five cable systems in New York City; Los Angeles; Alexandria, Virginia; Chamblee, Georgia; and Pensacola, Florida. It was initially operated primarily as a premium channel, generally packed with Showtime and its twin network The Movie Channel and Flix. This channel gets its name from the Redford characters in Butch Cassidy and Sundance Kid and, while it is an extension of the nonprofit Sundance Institute of Redford, it operates independently from both the Sundance Institute and the Sundance Film Festival.

Precisely a movie channel in the early years, the Sundance Channel developed into an original program in the early 2000s. After limited efforts on the original programming - City Of Men , House of Boateng , Iconoclasts , The Al Franken Show , First Amendment Project . The Hill and TransGeneration - Sundance Channel expanded its programming in 2007 by ordering One Punk Under God , Sin City Law >, and a prime-time environment block called "The Green." While the first two programs lasted only one season, the environmental block lasted until 2009.

Sales to Rainbow Media (2008-12)

On May 7, 2008, Rainbow Media subsidiary of Cablevision (owner of AMC, IFC, WE tv, and News 12 Networks, and dead Voom HD Networks) announced that they had purchased Sundance Channel for $ 496 million. The acquisition of Sundance Channel by Rainbow Media was completed in June 2008. On July 1, 2011, Rainbow Media was separated from Cablevision into a separate company, named AMC Networks.

Sundance saw the expansion of a row of documentary films and manuscripts without a script during this period; However, very few events took place outside of their first season, with the rest canceled after the second season. 2010 does see the first miniseries of the channel, Carlos , which can be credited as the beginning of future changes in programming for the channel.

Expansion into original program writing (2012-2014)

2012 saw the inaugural of two series without a new script in the form of Get Get Work and Push Girls before the miniseries of both channels Restless , aired in December. Jump went on to receive two Emmy Award nominations. It has also been announced that Sundance has taken his first original series, and previous development projects from the AMC sister channel, Rectify, and the third miniseries Top of the Lake .

On March 4, 2013, Sundance began airing AMC's Breaking Bad, whose channel had exclusive syndication rights, on Monday night. The seven section miniseries Top of the Lake aired on March 18, 2013, while getting critical acclaim before finally receiving eight Emmy nominations. Fixed was then aired on April 22, 2013, and is Sundance's original original third original script to receive critical acclaim. Continuing his urging as a destination for the series on Monday night, the second season of Push Girls followed, before leading the way to the new talk show The Writers' Room , where each the episode featured behind-the-scenes displays in the writing staff of the popular television series. October saw the premiere of Dream School and The Returned and the channel became fully ad-supported.

Rebranding (2014-present)

On January 27, 2014, it was announced that the Sundance Channel would be renamed to Sundance TV on February 1, 2014 featuring a new logo. 2014 features the four channel miniseries The Honorable Woman , the second channel owned by the original Red Hat draft series , the new reality series , and second season Fix , Author Room , and The Returned . The channel also took the series Hap and Leonard for 6 episodes based on the novel series by Joe R. Lansdale. On June 27, 2016, the show was updated for the second season.

Part of the reason for rebranding is to eliminate the emphasis on independent films. The latest programming has included large blocks of reruns of old mainstream TV fare such as Law and Order, Criminal Minds and The Andy Griffith Show. They have also been aired with harsh criticism or middle ground such as The Break-Ups and Columbiana . Very few of the programs currently have been featured at the Sundance Film Festival, or any other film festival recorded, for that matter.

Sundance also failed to carry on HD Tiers on most cable systems such as XFINITY.
