The famous incident
On November 20, 2009, inmates Leandro Luna, 52, and Adan Chavez, 53, fled from FCI Bastrop. Both could easily leave the facility because they were held in a prison camp with minimum security, which lacked a guardrail. Hector Gomez, US Deputy Marshal assigned to the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force, a team of law enforcement agencies made up of local authorities, Texas Rangers and US Marshals, said the escape may have been "working for a long time" and that the task force believed that Luna and Chavez, who are serving a sentence for narcotics conviction, are trying to escape to Mexico. It takes a two-day authority to inform the public about the escape. The prison officer will not specifically describe the escape or why the public was not informed earlier. Six days after the run, the Mexican government detained Luna and Chavez in Ciudad AcuÃÆ'à ± a, Mexico, across the border city of Del Rio, Texas. Later, it was discovered that Luna and Chavez had stolen a Federal Prison Bureau vehicle during their escape, found in a parking lot in East Austin, Texas.
