The Kentucky Department of Corrections is the Kentucky state agency Justice & amp; The Public Safety Cabinet that operates a state-owned adult social facility, provides oversight and sets the standard for county jails. They also provide training, community-based services, and oversee the Trial Period & amp; Division of Liberation. The institute is headquartered in the Health Service Building in Frankfort. James Erwin was appointed as Commissioner in May 2018 after serving as an interim commissioner since May 9, 2017 for the resignation of his former commissioner Rodney Ballard.
Since the beginning of Fiscal Year 2015, the department has experienced staff shortages in epic proportions due to low salaries, constant overtime (currently close to $ 10 million), and the lure of higher-paying jobs in the private sector. What happens 8 hours a day and 40 hours a week with overtime occasionally turns into 12 hours a day and 60 hours a week due to necessity. Responding to this employment crisis and the persistent pressure of correctional workers, the Kentucky Legislature held a special session and approved a direct 13.1% salary increase for current security staff, transferred non-security staff to 40 hours a week, and increased initial salary for Corrective Personnel from $ 23,346 to $ 26,400 per year. Shortly after taking office, Governor Bevin put $ 4.5 million in his biennial budget proposal to provide retirement incentives for penal staff.

Private prison
In June 2013, Kentucky temporarily ended its long-term relationship with Corrections Corporation of America (CCA) (now CoreCivic), closing the Marion Adjustment Center . Mary, the last personal prison at the time that Kentucky inmates occupied. This decision is widely appreciated throughout the state, because of the tax savings in millions.
Otter Creek Correctional Complex at Wheelwright closed in 2012 amid allegations of medical negligence, poor security and sexual harassment of prisoners from staff. It's still owned by CoreCivic and sits empty. Discussions have been held periodically to use the empty Otter Creek facility as a nursing home for a growing elderly population in Kentucky, with the need for medical care that most institutions can not handle.
Adjustment Center Lee in Beattyville, also operated by CoreCivic, prisoners outside the state from Vermont to 2010. In November 2017, due to overcrowded facilities, the Kentucky Corruption Department signed a contract enabling CoreCivic to reactivate the prison empty to accommodate up to 800 male prisoners. These inmates will be removed from the Kentucky State Reformatory. The facility reopened and began receiving inmates in March 2018.

Death row
The Kentucky State Penitentiary (KSP) overshadowed the fall of the male penalty. Kentucky Women's Prison for Women is home to the death line of women. The execution took place in the KSP.
