The Wisconsin Department of Corrections is the administration department of the Wisconsin state executive branch responsible for corrections in Wisconsin, including state prisons. On February 29, 2016, the department is managed by Secretary Jon Litscher. The DOC Secretary is a cabinet member appointed by the Governor of Wisconsin and confirmed by the Wisconsin Senate. The departments of the Wisconsin Department of Corrections include: Youth Correction Division, Adult Division, Correction Division and Management Services Division. It has its headquarters in Madison.
In June 2008, more than 120 supervised minimum security officers were used to help fill sandbags and flood-cleaning during floods.

Adult Division
The Adult Institution Division (DAI) oversees 20 adult facilities and the Bureau of Corrections, the Health Service Bureau and the Bureau of Classification and Offensive Movements. The division also manages the Wisconsin Correctional Center System, which consists of 13 state-of-the-art facilities that assist prisoners in reintegration into society.
Male prisoners who entered the prison system first went to the Dodge Penitentiary before being given permanent duties.

Juvenile Correction Division
The division has teenage facilities.
"Type 1 guaranteed juvenile facility" (JCI) includes:
- Lincoln Hills School
- Prior to 1994, the country's youth agency for girls was located in Lincoln Hills. After June 1, 2011, students at Ethan Allen and Southern Oaks combined to Lincoln Hills. The girls are held in a separate facility called "Copper Lake School," in Lincoln Hills.
- Achievement Program Cadet (CAP)
- Juvenile Mendota Care Center (MJTC)
- SPRITE Program (Support, Persistence, Respect, Initiative, Cooperation, and Education)
The state also uses residential type 2 facilities.
Facilities currently closed include:
- Ethan Allen School for Boys (Delafield) - Closed on July 1, 2011.
- The facility was changed from Wisconsin State TB Sanitarium to a youth facility in April 1959.
- Southern Oaks Girls School - Closed on July 1, 2011.
Division of Community Correction
The function of the Community Correction Division is to oversee offenders (over 68,000 by 2017) in probation, parole or extended supervision, which includes the operation and maintenance of the Wisconsin sex offender registration program.
