The Suffolk County Sheriff's Department is a law enforcement agency for Suffolk County, Massachusetts, USA. The agency's primary responsibility is supervision of Nashua Street Jail and South Bay House of Correction in Boston, Massachusetts.

The facility was built in 1991 at a cost of $ 115 million to replace the ancient prison in Deer Island. The HOC is designed to accommodate up to 900 inmates at a time, but currently houses over 1,900 at any given time. There are 674 cells and 32 different housing units in this modern facility.

Nashua Street Jail
The facility was built in 1990 to replace the historic Charles Street Jail operating from 1851 to 1991. The facility accommodates nearly 744 pre-trial detainees in 13 different housing units. The prison has 453 cells containing 654 individual beds. All the maximum security facilities.
Training Academy of Correction Officer
The Suffolk County Sheriff's Department has a 12-week training academy for recruitment to become a correction officer. Specific topics covered include: the use of force, security and handling of firearms, suicide prevention, courtroom testimony, ethics and professionalism, inmate education, fire safety, CPR and first aid, report writing, and interpersonal communication, among topics others. Recruits are also given physical training and are taught some defensive tactics.
The Training Facility is located in Chelsea, Massachusetts.
Honor Guard Unit
The Honorary Keeper Unit is often requested by organizations to appear throughout Suffolk County and beyond to display Colors for community functions, funerals, parades, and events.
Unit K-9
The Sheriff Department currently has four K-9 teams. Two of the K-9s are German Shepherds trained in patrol and narcotics surveillance and two other dogs are Labrador trained in narcotics detection. These teams provide additional security and search for narcotics within the House of Correction and Nashua Street Jail as well as assist other law enforcement agencies in search of narcotics, escape from criminals, or the loss of children.
