Emergency Response Team ( CERT or CRT ) is a team of highly trained Corrections Officers or Deputy Sheriffs in the United States assigned to respond to incidents, riots , cell extraction, mass search, or imprisonment in prisons or prisons may involve uncooperative or violent detainees. CRT team members should be contactable and available to respond at any time. CRT is based on a team concept and consists of highly motivated and experienced officers.

Task

Possible tasks of the CRT team include transporting high-risk inmates, removing uncooperative detainees from their cells, daily cell search and high profile security, barricaded people, riots, mass arrests, high risk/high profile transport and situations of hostage taking, and mass control. In the United States, CRT organizations and training requirements differ from one state to another. A standard cell extraction team may consist of the following:

  1. The CRT Team Leader "Leads". Is the only person who can give verbal commands to the inmates and his team. Speech communication skills, de-escalation anger techniques.
  2. Equipment/Video Member "EQV" To capture all responses on the video.
  3. The CRT officer "1" The main member, first dealing with inmates. Usually a human shield.
  4. The CRT officer "2" The second team member. Usually assigned to cripple the right arm/hand
  5. CRT Officer "3" A third team member at. Usually assigned to paralyze the left arm/hand
  6. CRT Officer "4" Fourth team member. Usually assigned to paralyze the right foot.
  7. The CRT officer "5" The fifth team member at. Usually assigned to paraly the left leg. (Practiced at the Emergency Medical Health Facility in Trenton, NJ)
  8. CRT Officer "6" The sixth team member. It is usually assigned to apply restraints (handcuffs, legs, flexi-cuffs, etc.). (Practiced at the Emergency Medical Health Facility in Trenton, NJ)

CRT officers are equipped with extensive equipment, including body armor, helmets, tactical gloves, handcuffs, shackles, and anti-riot shields. CRT officers can also be equipped with non-lethal rifles, Tasers, OC sprays, or lethal weapons such as firearms. CRT officers can be equipped with uniformed policeman uniforms and work as part of a Strong Human Team in the Emergency Room (Emergency Medical Capital Facilities in Trenton, NJ).

Hong Kong CERT

With a size of about 152 part-time personnel, a special response unit of the Penalty Correction Department was formed under the Escort and Support Groups organization.

Hong Kong CERT handles emergencies and riots with the Hong Kong prison system. Members are equipped with less lethal weapons such as pepper spray. Firearms are used as a last resort.
