The Albany County Sheriff's Department ( ACSD ), is a full-service law enforcement agency serving the citizens of Albany County, New York. ACSD has the power of more than 800 employees.

Organization
ACSD is divided into several units including: "... patrol uniform, criminal investigation unit, drug prohibition unit, fire investigation unit, scuba unit, crime and accident investigation unit, snowmobile unit, marine patrol, emergency response team (SWAT) unit, hostage/crisis negotiation, emergency management unit, life support unit, bicycle patrol unit, Unit K-9, traffic safety unit, STOP DWI unit, civilian unit, court security and prisoner transport unit, forensic unit, emergency medical service unit Paramedics), regional fire coordinating units, domestic violence units and special casualties, and search and rescue units. "Alongside traditional law enforcement, ACSD is directed at maintaining security at the Albany District Court, Albany Judicial Center and Albany County Family Court. ACSD is also contracted as a law enforcement agent for Albany International Airport located in Colonie, New York.
Correction
The Albany County Sheriff's Department is also responsible for housing residents at Albany County Correctional Center. First built in 1931, county jail is the country's fifth largest county correctional facility in the state. The prison contains 1,029 beds and has more than 420 sworn and civilian staff. The prison recognizes more than 7,000 inmates per year and an average daily population of over 800.
