Norwegian Prisons Service (in Norwegian: Criminalomsorgen ) is a government agency responsible for the implementation of detention and punishment in a convincing manner for the public and to prevent criminal acts. The agency is governed by the Ministry of Justice and Public Security of Norway.
The agency was created as a Prison Board (Norwegian: FÃÆ'Ã|ngselsstyrelsen later written Fengselsstyret ) in 1875 and became subordinate to the Department Justice and Police, led by a director. The Prison Board was dissolved in 2002 and replaced by the Norwegian Correctional Service.
The KragerÃÆ'Ã Prison is (in 2016) the fourth Norwegian prison for women and a fifth is expected to commence as Kongsvinger Prison's wing in early 2017.
